Reflecting on the first RIPU session, I have come to realise some interesting factors in the progress of my fine art practice. But first of all I would like to illustrate a few points from the session: as a task to think about over the summer it was interesting to see everyone's take on a Manifesto. I was particularly taken by the integrity of some students to make their manifesto a physical piece of art. I suppose they are all pieces of art.
Personally I found it almost quite difficult to write comments on other peoples manifestos when I knew nothing about what they were studying. A lot of my comments said ' okay, but what does this mean?' I guess I will learn more about their practices in further sessions.
I had a few interesting comments which I need to think about, such as:
- Time is the enemy is an intriguing thought, as is the notion of control, the 'we'
(collaboration between practices was suggested here)
- Who is 'we'?
- Why Blue?
There was a couple which I could not read which I will have to investigate further.
In reflection to this manifesto, there are clearly some steps which I need to think about and develop for the making of actual work. However I am eager to start drawing and developing my practice.
